If I can be vulnerable, I struggle with anxiety. My anxiety has affected my interactions with others. Do you resonate with this? If so, then this article is for you. Let me give you a few tips on what helped me to overcome my battles with anxiety.
Get some sleep
Many people forgot that a lack of sleep can increase anxiety and anxious thoughts. This is one of the reasons that it is recommended to sleep well before a big test. I know personally that when I am sleep-deprived my anxiety can become crippling. My heart races and it’s harder for me to think. It’s like I hit a brick wall in my mind that causes me to lose confidence. Fear becomes a devastating reality and leaves me gasping for air. Maybe you are not getting enough sleep. If so, then it is time to change your sleeping pattern. You will soon notice the benefits of getting rest.
Get a good meal
When you are not eating or drinking enough water you are not fueling your brain. Make sure that you are getting enough calories in the day especially in the morning. Breakfast is one of the most important meals that you can have. Now that you know that getting a good a meal is important, make sure that you are eating the right things. Stay away from the junk food and start eating healthier. Eating healthier will definitely help you to fight anxiety and it will also help you to have a positive mood.
Mediate on God
When we meditate on God we are putting our mind at peace. This mediation stills our racing heart and helps us to reflect on Him and His goodness. One thing that I like to do is read Scriptures that remind me of His love for me. There are many God loves you verses in the Bible. I encourage you to take the time to reflect on these verses. When our thoughts are anxious we have to find a peace that sustains. The only peace that will always remain is the peace that comes from God’s heart.
Stop overworking yourself
Studies have shown that regular exercise reduces anxiety. The problem is that many people overdo it. Too much exercise can cause fatigue, anxiety, and depression. I can understand that you want the body that you have always dreamed of. However, make sure that you are not overworking yourself at the gym. It would be wise to talk to your doctor. They may be able to help you if you feel that your daily exercise is increasing your anxiety.
Quotes about anxiety
“Anxiety is terrible, you could be having an attack and no one would even know, because it’s an inward thing. It feels like you’re malfunctioning and you can’t process your own thoughts. You get a knot in your stomach and you can’t take a full breath, but outwardly you can literally just sit there and look completely normal, as long as no one tries to speak to you.”
“Anxiety makes you sit there and overthink every single thing. At times it makes you think people in your life are leaving you. You begin to feel abandoned, and not worth anything because the most important people in your life don’t want you.”
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” — Martin Luther King Jr.
“I promise you nothing is as chaotic as it seems. Nothing is worth your health. Nothing is worth poisoning yourself into stress, anxiety, and fear.” — Steve Maraboli
“The mountain doesn’t have to be moved in a day, or even a week. It may take a while, but you’ve got time. You’re worth it, so you have time.”
