Former Chancellor Angela Merkel (68) and her husband Joachim Sauer (73) attended the premiere of the opera “The Barber of Seville” in the Festspielhaus on Thursday evening. The couple came to the event as part of the Salzburg Festival together with the Austrian ex-minister Martin Bartenstein (69) and his wife Ilse Bartenstein (67).

Merkel and Sauer are said to have shown themselves “shy of the public,” reports the news portal “Salzburg24”. They were driven directly into the inner courtyard of the Festspielhaus in a limousine and only “a handful of onlookers” saw them.

Merkel would definitely have attracted attention, as she appeared in another green variant of her two-piece dress, which she had already worn in a lighter tone a few days ago when she visited the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth.
