The Federation of Publishers Guilds of Spain (FGEE) has awarded La Lectura, the cultural magazine of EL MUNDO, the LIBER 2023 Award for promoting reading in the media. The Board of Directors of the FGEE highlights “both the choice of its name and the careful attention it pays to editorial novelties, the brilliance of its presentation and the fact that it has become, despite its youth, a benchmark in the literary and cultural world. “.
‘La Lectura’ has been distributed, since January 2022, every Friday with EL MUNDO. Directed by Maite Rico, it is defined as a space for information, discovery and reflection “committed to free thought”, as well as a “meeting point for readers, creators and cultural agents from Spain and Latin America”. In addition to the information and trends in the world of books, the arts, the stage and music, its pages are also a space for debate on the issues that mark our reality, from history to technology, from geopolitics to changes. social. The cover hosts each week the work of an artist, as a “museum without walls.”
“Everyone in the team is very excited about this recognition. Unidad Editorial’s commitment to a cultural magazine had hints of daring. But since we left, a year and a half ago, the reception by the public and the cultural sectors has not been able to be warmer. And now this award is undoubtedly the best possible stimulus to continue working hard”, says Maite Rico.
The FGEE has also announced the LIBER 2003 prize for the best audiovisual adaptation of a literary work, which has gone to the series Los pacientes del doctor García. The editors recognize with the award “the interesting synthesis that the series makes of the saga Episodes of an Endless War”, by Almudena Grandes, as well as the fact that it is broadcast “openly and narrates one of our contemporary history”. Co-produced by RTVE, Diagonal (Banijay Iberia) and DeAPlaneta, with the participation of Netflix, Los pacientes del doctor García is directed by Joan Noguera, with a script and adaptation by José Luis Martín and Nacho Pérez de la Paz. “The series connects real and unknown events of World War II and the Franco regime to build the lives of characters who not only share the fate of Spain, but also that of Argentina.” The cast of the series is led by Javier Rey, Tamar Novas and Verónica Echegui.
With the LIBER Awards, the federation of Spanish publishers recognizes entities and people who spread the value of books and culture in today’s society.
