Already eclipsed by Taylor Swift during the Super Bowl, Usher saw Beyoncé invite herself to his field on Sunday February 11. “Queen B” released two new tracks almost at the same time as the halftime show, Texas Hold ’em and 16 Carriages. Two intimate tracks, with country accents, light years from his last opus, the very danceable Renaissance (2022). The singer also released a short film, which seems to announce the release of an album on March 29: Renaissance: Act II.
The new songs were also broadcast during the Super Bowl as part of an advertising campaign by the American telecommunications company Verizon. In this ad, Beyoncé is shown trying, unsuccessfully, to “break the internet” through a series of skits.
The singer can be seen in a film called Barbey, a hologram called Beyonc-AI, a presidential campaign for BOTUS (Beyoncé of the United States) before proclaiming: “OK, they’re ready. Play the new music.”
“Project in three acts”
At the same time, Texas Hold’em and 16 Carriages were already available on streaming platforms. Ten hours after the publication of the two titles on YouTube, they had more than 600,000 views.
The first song is almost entirely composed of acoustic guitars and bass drums while the second has more country sounds on the verses and addresses the precocity of his career. Both titles are produced by Raphael Saadiq, who had already worked on the album A Seat at the Table by Solange Knowles, sister of Beyoncé.
Fans were impatiently awaiting a new project from Beyoncé, who released Renaissance two years ago. At the time, she revealed on her website that the album would be the first in a “three-act project.”
