A French actress who handles humor and is known in Hollywood: Camille Cottin will officiate as mistress of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, from May 14 to 25, France Télévisions and Brut announced on Thursday, March 14, which will broadcast again this year the opening and closing ceremonies.
The 45-year-old actress, who started in the comic register, with her character “Connasse”, and numerous appearances in comedies, has seen her career accelerate in recent years.
Her role as a high-energy artistic agent in the series Ten Percent made her known to as many people as possible and opened the doors to Hollywood, where she made several films.
Abroad, she played with Ridley Scott (House of Gucci), with Matt Damon in Marseille (Stillwater) or in a biopic on former Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir (Golda). She also recently appeared alongside Jean Dujardin and George Clooney… in an ad for Nespresso coffee capsules.
The Cannes Film Festival has chosen American Greta Gerwig, director of Barbie, one of last year’s biggest blockbusters, to chair the jury. The latter will elect the film which will succeed the 2023 Palme d’Or, Anatomy of a Fall, by Justine Triet.
Quebec director Xavier Dolan will chair the jury for the Un Certain Regard prize.
The selection for the 77th edition is to be announced on April 11.
Among the most anticipated films, and which could be selected, a mega-project by Francis Ford Coppola with Adam Driver and Forest Whitaker, Megalopolis, the adaptation of Limonov, by Emmanuel Carrère, by the Russian Kirill Serebrennikov, or even a musical comedy by Jacques Audiard in the world of drug trafficking in Mexico. As well as the remake of the sulphurous Emmanuelle, signed Audrey Diwan.
