The London Metropolitan Police has opened an investigation for “several alleged sexual offences” against actor Russell Brand following publications in the media.

These are “not recent” accusations, as reported by the London Police in a statement that refers to the joint investigation of the Channel 4 program Dispatches and ‘The Sunday Times’ that has led to “the Metropolitan Police receiving several complaints of sexual crimes in London”.

“We have also received several complaints about sexual crimes perpetrated in other places in the country that will also be investigated,” the police force explained. The investigation will be carried out by detectives from the Central Specialized Crime Command led by Superintendent Andy Furphy.

“We continue to encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim of a sexual crime to contact us, no matter how much time has passed,” the Police said. “We understand that it may be a difficult step to take and I want to guarantee you that we have a team of specialized agents for advice and support,” added the police statement, reported by the British press.

The journalistic investigation reveals accusations by four women against Brand for rape and abuse against them. One of them was a minor at the time of the events. Brand have denied the facts and assure that all relationships were consensual.
