The City of Besançon in turn issued a decree on Monday, August 21, prohibiting a show by the controversial comedian Dieudonné, scheduled for Friday, “in order to guarantee respect for public order”. The comedian’s Sous bracelet show has already been canceled in recent days in other cities such as Lyon, Toulouse, Montpellier and Paris.
Recalling that “Mr. Dieudonné M’Bala M’Bala [has] been the subject of numerous criminal convictions for having made negationist remarks, inciting racial hatred or advocating terrorism”, the mayor EELV, Anne Vignot, indicates in a press release that, “in order to guarantee respect for public order, the City of Besançon has issued a municipal decree banning shows”.
This was scheduled for next Friday at 8 p.m., while the exact location of the performance was only to be communicated at the last moment.
Since 2002, Dieudonné has been the subject of numerous legal proceedings. He was notably sentenced in September 2020 to a fine of 10,000 euros for racist remarks made in June 2017 during his show Le Bal des quenelles.
