As every year, numerous celebrities attended the opening of the Bayreuth Festival. One who has not missed the spectacle for years is former Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU, 68). The politician appeared on Monday (July 25) for the premiere of the new “Tristan and Isolde” production, accompanied by her husband Joachim Sauer (73) – and with her bright green two-piece suit was undoubtedly the eye-catcher in front of the Bayreuth Festival Hall.
Merkel already wore that look in Bayreuth in 2019. In addition to the two-piece suit made of shiny taffeta, she grabbed her beige clutch again, which captivated with its fine patterns. The pearl necklace and the watch with a black leather strap were also used again. Sauer threw himself into a classic tuxedo with a white shirt and bow tie.
The couple walked the red carpet together with Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU, 55) and his wife Karin. Söder’s wife exuded plenty of glamor in a dark blue glitter dress with an off-shoulder cut. The CSU politician also chose a black tuxedo.
Entertainer Thomas Gottschalk (72) also appeared on the Green Hill with his partner Karina Mroß. Mroß drew everyone’s attention with her skin-tight, violet cape dress. Her blonde hair was styled in an elegant updo. Gottschalk went for a chic ensemble consisting of a gold jacquard jacket, purple waistcoat, black bow tie, white shirt and black suit trousers. He combined round sunglasses with the look, which was color-coordinated with his partner.
The Bayreuth Festival takes place from July 25th to September 1st. Performances are planned almost every day for about a month, including “Das Rheingold”, “Siegfried”, “Lohengrin” or “Die Walküre”.
