Like many other things, body care products have become more expensive. But Stiftung Warentest helps with savings. The has put together inexpensive products with good reviews. From electric toothbrushes to wet razors to body lotions.
Teeth brushed, freshly shaved, lotioned – the day can begin. Just a little more expensive. Personal care products have also increased in price. According to the Federal Statistical Office, an average of 4.9 percent compared to the same month last year.
But the Stiftung Warentest helps out. It has put together inexpensive products with good ratings from its tests since June 2019, which are still available in stores unchanged and were among the price-performance winners at the time. Individual products are now even cheaper, for example a deodorant and a wet razor for women. And the same applies to the items that have become more expensive: Compared to their competition in the tests, they are still cheap. We have collected the current prices from the providers.
Bodylotion
In this test, Eucerin lotion, a relatively expensive product, came out top (currently around 14.30 euros per bottle). These are almost as good and, above all, much cheaper: “Isana Rich Body Milk” for dry skin from Rossmann (grade 2.3, around 0.25 euros per 100 ml) and “Lacura Body Milk Classic dry skin” from Aldi (grade 2 ,3, about 0.19 euros per 100 ml).
Deo
Not every deodorant has become more expensive. According to the Federal Statistical Office, the price of deodorant has risen by around 5.3 percent since the last test in May 2021. A price-performance winner is now even cheaper: The “Cien Natural Minerals with Aloe Vera” antiperspirant from Lidl (grade 2.1, 1 euro per 100 ml). The “Elkos Body Tropic Deodorant” from Edeka costs even less (grade 2.3, 0.58 euros per 100 ml).
Electric toothbrush
Since the last tests, some well-rated models have become five to 20 euros more expensive. Nevertheless, they are still a bargain compared to the test winner from Philips for 300 euros. For example, the “Müller Sensident Cordless Toothbrush Perfect Clean Professional” for only 16 euros is in no way inferior to more expensive models with a grade of 2.3.
Mascara
Many volume mascaras from the last test are now significantly more expensive – for example, the Manhattan Volcano Explosive Volume Mascara (grade 2.4) now costs 5.50 euros instead of the previous 3.65 euros, which is around 65 percent more. The Rival de Loop Ultimate Volume Fake Lashes Mascara from Rossmann has a slightly better rating of 2.3 and is still cheap – it only costs 3.50 euros.
mouthwash
At the beginning of 2021, Stiftung Warentest found that the cheapest mouthwashes are the best. Three of them have hardly changed in price and are still recommended with a grade of 1.6 and 0.15 euros per 100 ml. As there would be: “Kaufland Bevola Mint Mouthwash”, “Lidl Dentalux Mouthwash Fresh Mint Teeth Gums Intensive Protection” and “Edeka Elkos DentaMax Gum Care Mouthwash”.
razor
Since the last test two years ago, the prices for men’s wet razors have increased extremely – in some cases they now cost 75 percent more. It is cheaper with the “good” razors from “Ombia Men” (Aldi): They are available with six and four blades for 3.99 euros each – the latter even contains two spare blades.
For women’s wet razors, Stiftung Warentest recommends the “Isana disposable razor, 3 blades” (grade 1.8, four pieces for 2.99 euros) and the WilkinsonSword Quattro for women with interchangeable blades for 3.99 euros (grade 1.7) – or simply products for men, because they are often cheaper.
