The Emmy Awards ceremony, the most prestigious awards on American television, has been postponed for nearly four months, its organizers announced Thursday, while the strike of actors and screenwriters paralyzes Hollywood. The television equivalent of the Oscars, originally scheduled to be held on September 18, will take place in mid-January 2024, Fox and the Television Academy announced in a joint statement.
“We are pleased to announce that the 75th Emmy Awards will be broadcast on Monday, January 15, 2024,” said a spokesperson for the American television network, which broadcasts the ceremony. This is the most important audiovisual meeting so far affected by this double social movement, never seen since 1960 in Hollywood. The last postponement of the Emmy Awards dates back to 2001, in the context of the September 11 attacks.
After more than 100 days on strike, no agreement has yet been reached between the representatives of screenwriters and those of the studios to better remunerate the former with profits from streaming, or to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI ) in industry. The actors joined the movement in July.
