The children’s rights organisation Save the Children warns of a global Education crisis through the Covid-19 pandemic. According to a Monday report published by the organization until the end of the year almost ten million children could be excluded forever from the class. Particularly, this concerns will, therefore, girls in poorer countries or regions of conflict, the due to the school closures, and economic problems, in child labour or early marriages are forced.

Save the Children is calling for governments and donors to invest more in the education of children. The lender should give the poorest countries a postponement of the debt repayment. According to the report, “Save Our Education” (“Secures our education”) in the absence of the poorest countries in the next 18 months due to the global recession, the equivalent of a minimum of 68 billion euros for educational expenditure. In the worst case, could increase the gap until the end of 2021 to 170 billion Euro, if, for example, money from the education budgets in the fight against Covid-19 will be diverted.

A billion children do not go to school
