Some hikers found human remains in the area of ??Mount San Antonio, California, where British actor Julian Sands disappeared five months ago while hiking, local authorities have reported.
The remains were found Saturday morning in the middle of nature, the San Bernardino sheriff’s office said in a statement.
“Hikers contacted the Fontana Sheriff’s Office after discovering human remains near the mountain,” he said. They were transported to the forensic service to be identified. The process should finish next week.
Sands, who rose to fame with the movie ‘A Room with a View’ (1985) starring alongside Helena Bonham Carter, disappeared on January 13 on Mount San Antonio, about 3,000 meters high and on the outskirts of The Angels.
The 65-year-old actor was an experienced mountaineer who claimed to be the happiest man in the world when he was “near the top of a mountain on a gloriously cold morning.”
He had three children, two of them with his wife, the writer Evgenia Citkowitz.
A series of violent storms rocked California in December and January, bringing significant snowfall to the mountain ranges, including Mount San Antonio. The summit where Sands disappeared is the highest in the San Gabriel range and is a popular destination for Los Angeles residents.
