San Marcos officials approved five changes to its city parks Tuesday, Community Impact reported.

The new regulations, which affect parking and picnic sites, among other things, will go into effect Memorial Day weekend, the unofficial kick off for tubing season in Central Texas, Community Impact reported.

City officials did not immediately respond to requests for information from Tuesday’s meeting. Minutes from the meeting were not available online.

Officials told Community Impact the new rules will hopefully help with overcrowding and parking.

“I think the residents of San Marcos have been feeling this crunch for years,” said Councilwoman Lisa Prewitt, Place 1. “We just kind of quit going to the parks on weekends a lot. I think it would be nice for residents here to start to have that opportunity again.”
