Til Schweiger became known in 1991 with the Ruhrpott comedy “Manta, Manta”. The role of Bertie was his first leading role, which was followed by a great career as an actor and director – even as far as Hollywood. Now the 58-year-old is returning to his roots. He is currently in front of the camera for part two of “Manta, Manta”. In addition, this time he is directing himself.
More than 30 years after the first part, the world has changed fundamentally. But Schweiger doesn’t think much of sticking to political correctness or gendering in the new film. “Stop me with the gender madness!” He said in an interview with “Bild am Sonntag”. “‘Manta, Manta 2’ didn’t come out to roll out the red carpet for gender madness. Of course, the roles from back then have gotten older, have more life experience. But they’re not completely new characters.”
For the second part, Schweiger promises the viewers both “more comedy” and “more feeling” than in the first cinema strip. “Manta, Manta” is still a highly topical film for him: “The film is 30 years old and looks like it was shot yesterday.” To this day, the cult film from the nineties has many fans – mainly because of its sometimes crude humor.
In addition to Til Schweiger, Tina Ruland will also play in the film again. Also for her, who played Schweiger’s partner, the role in the cult film “Manta, Manta” was the big breakthrough at the time. Schweiger lost a few pounds for the role, he says, Ruland has become blonder again. There are also some new faces: for example Schweiger’s daughters Emma and Luna. Manta, Manta 2 is slated to hit theaters next year.
