Better than Barbra Streisand. American pop star Taylor Swift became Monday, July 17, with her latest opus Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), the female artist with the most number 1 albums in sales, dethroning the interpreter of Memory.
In total, the 33-year-old singer has placed twelve albums at the top of the Billboard, the benchmark ranking, according to the organization’s website. She is also “the first woman – and the first living solo artist” to have 11 albums placed simultaneously in the top 200 since August 1963, according to Billboard.
The absolute record belongs to Prince with 19 albums on the chart dated May 14, 2016, but this record came shortly after his death on April 21, 2016.
Taylor Swift achieves this performance with a re-recorded version of her third album Speak Now, released in 2010. Since 2019, the artist has indeed taken the public square of her fight to regain ownership of the recordings of her first six albums, after the takeover of his former record company, Big Machine, by music industry magnate Scooter Braun.
Six albums in the top 20
For this, she simply decided to re-record new versions: after Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version), Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is the third in a series of six. The original version is still on the Billboard 200, ranked 67th.
Taylor Swift is used to records: in October 2022, after the release of her album Midnights, she had managed to place all her songs in the top ten places of the Billboard Hot 100. With Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) at the top of the Billboard 200 , Taylor Swift has six albums in the top 20, nine in the top 40 and 10 in the top 100.
