Could it be the proximity of Cannes and its legendary festival, including the 2021 edition which was held from July 6 or 17? It’s a fact: wine-growing Provence fascinates the world of cinema. Already in 1981, Yves Rousset-Rouard, producer of Emmanuelle and Les Bronzés, launched an assault on the Citadel of Ménerbes. If the estate plays the leading roles in the Luberon today, it will have to come to terms with the desire of the monumental Ridley Scott (Alien, Gladiators…) to project his Mas des Infermières into the limelight. The British octogenarian, owner since 1992 of this little paradise in Oppède, does not intend to continue to make up the numbers on the local wine scene.

In the Var, the acquisition in 2011 by Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt of Château Miraval, in Correns, intrigued the critics. With good reason: with the help of Marc Perrin (Château de Beaucastel), the two stars quickly became the stars of the blockbusters of a domain with planetary success. Eight years later, the acquisition of the Château de Chausse, on the Saint-Tropez peninsula, by the New Yorker Charles Cohen, producer and main distributor of French auteur films in the United States, turned out to be more discreet. This does not prevent the new owner of the legendary cinema La Pagode, in Paris, from having great ambitions for his property in La Croix-Valmer.

In 2017, Château Margüi, in Coteaux-Varois, joined George Lucas’ Skywalker Vineyards fleet. The immense director writes a wine tourism scenario that should pierce the screen. Among his neighbours, he can meet Jean-Louis Croquet, in his Château Thuerry, father-in-law of Sofia Coppola and friend of the Californian filmmaker-winemaker, without forgetting George Cloneney, the latest Hollywood celebrity to want to tease the vine stock in Provence. What else?
