ORANGE, Ohio — Disturbance, departmental information; Orange Place: Police made a return trip to the Super 8 motel on the afternoon of Feb. 21 after receiving a report of a man walking along Orange Place with a baseball bat and yelling at passers by.

This came two days after the initial call, when the Moreland Hills man, 40, who was staying at the motel, threatened other guests with the aluminum bat, swinging it at them.

When police arrived on Feb. 19, they had to order him to drop the knife he was holding, which he did before agreeing to be transported to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Asked if he wanted to go back on Feb. 21, he said he had just gotten discharged, and he was walking with the bat for protection. When asked how the police could help, he asked them to give him a gun.

He was told that his actions were causing annoyance, panic and disturbance to the public, and any further incidents could lead to his arrest.

Fraud, Lander Road: A resident, 18, reported Feb. 17 that he was selling a pair of Brandblack Force Vector 1 shoes on the Lego app for $120. He received an offer from someone with a Westchester County, NY, area code, who agreed to send that amount plus a $50 holding fee.

Then a $1,500 check was sent to the shoe seller, who was instructed to withdraw his $170 and send back the remainder through a Moneygram.

When he next checked his account, he owed $1,675 to the bank, although management was willing to work with him to solve the problem. A report was made for documentation. 

Grand theft vehicle, Orange Place: A Brecksville man, 73, reported Feb. 19 that he had parked a rental car in the lot at Extended Stay North on the evening of Feb. 17 and then lost the keys.When he returned, the 2016 Nissan Versa with Illinois plates was gone.

It was listed as stolen and on the night of Feb. 20, Maple Heights police reported that it had been recovered and impounded there.

Lost property, Landerwood Glen: A Geauga County woman, 79, reported Feb. 19 that she had lost her iPhone 5, valued at $500, the day before. Police used the Find My Phone app, which pinged on East Meadow Lane, although a patrolman could not find it there.

Warrant served, Steels Corners Road: Akron police notified Orange on Feb. 21 that they had a resident, 58, in custody with a warrant pending out of Orange. Officers made the exchange in Stow.
