BROOKLYN, Ohio — A Brooklyn police officer was treated and released for minor injuries after he was dragged by a car during a Friday afternoon traffic stop, according to a police report.

The officer stopped the 34-year-old shortly after 2 p.m. on Ridge Road and Southfield Avenue. The officer discovered that he was wanted on two warrants, Brooklyn police said.

The officer recognized the car as one used in a prior theft, police said. When the officer stopped the car and approached, he recognized the driver as the suspect in an ongoing theft investigation, according to the news release.

The driver refused to get out of the car and sped away, police said. He dragged the officer a short distance. A short pursuit ensued before the driver lost control of the car. The car rolled on its side and came to a stop, the news release said.

Two officers suffered minor injuries and were treated at MetroHealth before they returned to work.

The suspect was also treated at MetroHealth.

The suspect has a criminal history that includes arrests and convictions for aggravated robbery, grand theft, auto theft and drug possession.

He has not been formally charged.
