CLEVELAND, Ohio — A robbery victim shot and killed a Cleveland man Monday during a struggle over a gun at an East Side apartment, police say.
David Patrick, 31, died at the East 55th Street apartment Monday morning after suffering several gunshot wounds.
Police say Patrick wore a scarf over his face when he approached a woman as she walked into the apartment about 7:45 a.m.
He forced the woman inside at gunpoint, robbed her, then walked upstairs, Cleveland police Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said.
Patrick encountered a 26-year-old man on the second floor. He held him at gunpoint and demanded money from him, Ciaccia said.
The two men struggled over the weapon. The 26-year-old was able to grab Patrick’s gun from him and fired a shot, police said.
The 26-year-old called police, then led officers to the crime scene. Police say two small children were in the home at the time of the robbery and shooting, but neither were injured. Officers determined the gun was stolen.
Police are still investigating, and no charges have been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
