A 78-year-old woman was found lying dead in a pool of blood at her Brooklyn home where cops found a broken hammer next to her body, police sources said.
Investigators believe a killer bashed 78-year-old Edna Pierre-Jacques over the head with the hammer at her family’s home on Troy Avenue in East Flatbush, although the case has not officially been ruled a homicide, sources said.
Police were called to the scene when Pierre-Jacques’ daughter and granddaughter walked into the blood-soaked home and found her dead shortly before 10 p.m. Monday.
Not far from her body was the head of a hammer that had become detached from its handle, leading investigators to believe the killer used a great amount of force while striking Pierre-Jacques, police sources said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner’s Office has not officially announced the cause of death.
Police are questioning the woman’s family, including her husband, who was home when Pierre-Jacques’ daughter and granddaughter walked in on the horrific scene.
In the basement of the home, investigators found several poker machines, which may have been part of an illegal gambling operation, police sources said.
It was unclear if any other people may have been inside the house prior to Pierre-Jacques’ death.
