The Science Bowl Team from Daniel Wright Junior High School competed with nine other middle school teams and captured the championship at the 2017 Regional Science Bowl Competition at Argonne National Laboratory on Feb. 4.

The Daniel Wright Science Bowl Team comprised the following students: eighth-graders Anay Aggarwal, Sai Merneedi, Praneet Rathi and Ryan Yao; and seventh-grader Anmol Dash.

Sophia Capelli serves as the academic coach for the Daniel Wright Science Bowl Team, and Anthony Hafner serves as the car team coach.

This is the fourth consecutive year the school’s Science Bowl Team took the regional crown at Argonne Laboratory to advance to the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C. This is the sixth time in seven years a team from Daniel Wright will be part of the National Science Bowl competition.

This year, the national competition will take place April 27 to May 1. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science manages the national finals for high school and middle school teams.

Daniel Wright Junior High School is a 2016 Blue Ribbon School for excellence in education and is part of Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103. Daniel Wright serves students in grades 5-8 who reside in School District 103, which is in Lake County.
