A group of Brooklyn inmates got the carrot and sick treatment, they claim in a lawsuit.
More than a dozen jailbirds in Brooklyn’s House of Detention say they fell ill after eating carrot cake infused with rat poison during Thanksgiving 2015, according to court papers.
The 16 inmates were so sick after eating the cake that some needed cat scans or to have their stomachs pumped, according to the Brooklyn Federal Court filing.
The victims’ relatives called 311 or 911 to report the illnesses, which allegedly prompted Correction officers to gather up the suspect dessert and destroy it before inspectors showed up, the inmates charge.
The inmates are seeking $1 million each in damages.
The city will review the complaint, a Law Department spokesman said.
