CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio ranks first in affordability, government digitalization and budget transparency, in new rankings released by U.S. News and World Report.
Overall, the state comes in at 35th among the 50 states, in the magazine’s first rankings of states and the services their governments provide. The 68 metrics include transportation, corrections and infrastructure, with education and health care given the most weight in overall rankings.
Massachusetts came in first. Louisiana came in last. See the full list below.
The affordability ranking is determined from the respondents’ ratings of the cost of living and housing affordability in their state.
Ohio was near the bottom of the list for environment (ranked 44), fiscal stability (42) and internet access (45).
U.S. News is known for its rankings of colleges and hospitals. The state information was collected from 26 sources, including the U.S. Census and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. McKinsey & Co., a global management firm, gathered all the data.
