CLEVELAND, Ohio – The assumption coming out of Sunday’s episode of “The Walking Dead” is that the show’s cowardly lion Eugene is now a member of Negan’s Saviors.
But a recent post from a reddit user screams “Not so fast.” According to mrlonelywolf, Eugene’s final words in the episode suggest he may have a bigger plan in mind to eventually take down Negan.
“I’m Eugene, you’re Dwight. We are Negan,” Eugene says at the episode’s conclusion while standing next to Dwight. Many focused on those final words as proof Eugene is drinking the Negan Kool-Aid. But the reddit user focuses on the first half of the quote.
“Stating ‘We are Negan’ is purely an affirmation of the story they’ve both created,” the user writes. “Neither truly are Negan, but Eugene is essentially saying, ‘Remember, we’re both who we always have been, but while we’re here in the Sanctuary, we’re Negan.'”
Some might argue that Eugene’s reluctance to help Negan’s wives poison him goes against this thinking. But perhaps Eugene recognizes the overly simple nature of the plan.
Negan would be wise to his wives eventually turning against him. Perhaps Eugene recognizes this and is saving his grand move for a better time and plan. After all, Eugene has experience pretending he’s something he’s not.
