Computer signaling problems at Union Station in Chicago have been restored, but major delays for train traffic entering and departing the station continue.
Amtrak experienced computer signaling problems on the south and north side of the station, Metra said on its website. Train traffic started moving about 8 a.m. after Amtrak workers manually moved tracks, but 42 trains were backed up at the station, leading to extensive delays, Metra said.
Metra spokesman Tom Miller said the computer issue started at about 6:30 a.m., and is affecting all north and south Metra trains at Union Station.
Affected Metra train lines include the BNSF, Milwaukee West and Liderbahis Milwaukee North. Some trains were operating more than an hour behind schedule, officials said.
