After around two and a half years of the pandemic, the Corona Expert Committee presents an expert opinion. But it’s not enlightening. The bottom line is mostly truisms. Anyone can pick from this report what suits them politically.

We’ve been waiting for this report from the experts for a long time: mask, visit restrictions, lockdown and shops closed – what worked and what didn’t? This has been the subject of arguments at every kitchen table for as long as Corona has existed. The result was that there is often not enough data for a clear judgement. Germany is a desert when it comes to digital health.

The bottom line is, above all, truisms: A lockdown works all the better the more people participate. Aha. Masks are good when they are pulled over the mouth and nose. Really? The committee is quite skeptical about school closures, but you already knew that. As a remedy against Corona, they have long been taboo.

Actually, science should be ahead of politics and show it the way. Now it looks like the experts are at a loss even with hindsight. That’s why everyone can pick from this report what suits them politically. That does not settle the old disputes and does little for the next wave of infections.

Let’s be honest: Two and a half years after the beginning of the pandemic, “You don’t know anything specific” is more than poor. It’s cowardly.
