BT recently announced the launch of a £4 million apprenticeship program to support the next generation of tech talent. This initiative will provide funding for apprenticeships over a four-year period. Since 2017, businesses with an annual wage bill exceeding £3 million have been required to pay the apprenticeship levy, which helps fund the recruitment and training of apprentices. However, BT has taken a step further by partnering with apprenticeship training provider, Babington, to transfer up to £4 million from its levy funds to assist SMEs, charities, and the public sector in training new apprentices and enhancing their workforce.

Through this partnership, Babington will connect businesses with suitable training providers and guide them through the application process. Successful applicants will have access to fully funded apprenticeship training within 20 days. The program has the potential to support up to 550 apprentices, generating an economic impact of £21 million.

Chris Sims, BT Group’s managing director for small and medium businesses, emphasized the importance of supporting SMEs in investing in talent.
