Air raid alarms are sounded in several regions of Russia via radio. The residents should therefore flee to shelters. The country’s civil defense later claimed hackers were responsible. It is unclear whether there is a connection to the invasion of Ukraine.
According to authorities, a false air alarm was triggered in several Russian cities in the morning. Russia’s state civil defense spoke of a hacker attack on some commercial radio stations.
According to media reports, listeners from several broadcasters had heard the following warning: “Caution, an air alert has been called. Everyone must go to shelters immediately. Caution, caution, there is a risk of a rocket attack.” A little later, civil defense reported to the Telegram news service: “This information is fake and does not correspond to reality.”
The false warning could be heard in the Moscow region, in Pyatigorsk, Tyumen, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Magnitogorsk and other cities, reported the independent Russian medium “Meduza”, which works from Latvia.
A year ago, Russia invaded neighboring Ukraine. Since then, there have been repeated protests by opponents of the war in the largest country in the world, such as arson attacks on military facilities. However, it was not yet clear whether the false alarm was also connected to the war.
