Attacks on Kremlin administration employees are not uncommon in the occupied city of Kherson. Now, according to Russian information, it hits a man who worked for the administration in the field of sports and youth.
According to Russian information, a representative of the authorities was killed in an attack in Cherson in southern Ukraine, which is occupied by the Russian army. “It was a targeted attack,” the authorities said, according to the Russian news agencies. “An explosive device was planted in his car.” The victim was responsible for sports and youth in the administration for the Kherson region.
Such attacks on Russian officials are becoming more frequent in the areas of Ukraine controlled by the Russian army. The Russian army had already taken the area around Cherson, which borders on the annexed Crimean Peninsula, shortly after beginning its Ukraine offensive at the end of February. Since then, the area has been brought ever closer to Russia. A week and a half ago, Russia began issuing Russian passports, and the Russian ruble was introduced as a means of payment.
Meanwhile, fighting in Donbass continues. The Ukrainian military suffered severe setbacks. For example, Ukraine announced a troop withdrawal from the city of Sievjerodonetsk in the east of the country, which had been fought over for weeks. According to their own statements, Russian and pro-Russian fighters captured the settlements of Hirske and Solote in the Luhansk region. The Luhansk separatists showed the hoisting of a Soviet flag at the Zolote municipal building, south of Lysychansk, Sievarodonetsk’s twin city. Initially, there was no confirmation from the Ukrainian side.
It was announced on Thursday that Russian troops had surrounded the area around Hirske and Solote. It remained unclear whether at least parts of the Ukrainian units were able to withdraw in time and thus save themselves. Russia invaded Ukraine four months ago and has since conquered large parts of eastern and southern Ukraine. In the Luhansk region, Ukrainian troops now only control the city of Lysychansk. There, too, Russian soldiers have already advanced to the outskirts of the city.
