In Renfrewshire, a tragic road collision resulted in the loss of a woman’s life and four horses. The incident, which occurred on the A737 near Howwood at 3:10 am on Monday, involved a Mercedes A-Class car and a MAN box van. Emergency services responded to the scene following reports of the collision and of six horses running loose on the road at that time.
The 59-year-old woman, a passenger in the Mercedes, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The 52-year-old male driver of the car was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, while a 33-year-old male passenger was transported to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. The 59-year-old male driver of the van was also taken to the RAH for assessment.
Tragically, four of the horses involved in the collision did not survive, while two were successfully rescued from harm. The road had to be closed to facilitate an investigation into the incident and was later reopened at 2 pm.
Sergeant Jack Swindells expressed condolences to the family of the deceased woman and assured that investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the crash.
