Christian Lindner believes that our prosperity is at risk. He would therefore like to see more full-time employees and considers later retirement to be an option. However, working and overtime should also be worthwhile, says the finance minister.

In the opinion of Federal Minister of Finance Christian Lindner, more work should be done in Germany in order to secure prosperity. He pleaded for more full-time jobs and considers later retirement to be an option. “For the first time in a long time, we are seeing some real wage losses again,” Lindner told the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit” according to the advance notice. The state cannot compensate for this on a broad scale and not in the long term. “Of course, the question then arises as to how we can get more people to switch from part-time to full-time.”

In this context, a longer working life is also conceivable. “I’m against a fixed retirement age. We need individuality because life situations differ. But we have to give people an incentive to put their skills at the service of society.” A roofer may no longer be able to stand on the roof at the age of 67, but his experience can be very helpful in training or in sales.

According to the newspaper, Lindner spoke out against a general call for overtime. A differentiated debate is needed. “It would be absurd to say to the full-time carer with an overcrowded roster: work more! We need to make sure that the work and the paid overtime are worth it and are not penalized by excessive tax deductions.”
