Kamala Harris, U.S. Vice President, stated that Russia was spreading lies, disinformation and propaganda at the conference and warned about sanctions.
She stated, “Let’s be clear. I can tell you with absolute certainty that if Russia invades Ukraine further, the United States together with our allies, partners, and will impose significant economic costs.”
She stated to diplomats and defense officials that the national borders should not change by force and that even though Russia claims it is open for talks, its actions don’t match its words. Christina Ruffini reported on “CBS Saturday Morning.”
The U.S. claims it will defend all NATO territory and send troops to anxious European allies such as Poland. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin visited Poland Friday and announced that 250 Abrams tanks made in America were being sold.
Joe Biden, President, reiterated that the U.S. would not send its troops into Ukraine to combat Russia. Instead, he chose to target Moscow’s messaging and offer diplomatic and military support to the Ukrainian people.
“We’re calling Russia’s plans loudly, repeatedly,” Mr. Biden stated, “not because it wants a conflict but because we’re doing all we can to remove any reason Russia might give to invade Ukraine.”
He stated Friday that he was “convinced” by Russian President Vladimir Putin and has made the decision to invade.
Harris met in Munich on Saturday with Volodymyr Zelensky (the Ukrainian President), who was scheduled to speak at the conference. The delegate pool was split over whether Zelensky should leave Ukraine now. Many American officials advised Zelensky against leaving Ukraine, even in private.
