For his very first trip to France, the King of England Charles III spoke at the Palais du Luxembourg, seat of the French Senate. During this speech, the British sovereign recalled his commitment to continuing the strong bond linking his country to France. “Together, we are unwavering in our determination that Ukraine will triumph and that our cherished freedoms will prevail,” the king said in French as he denounced Russia’s “unjustified aggression on our continent” of Ukraine.
On the second day of his state visit, Charles III, with strong environmental convictions, also proposed that France and the United Kingdom commit to an “Agreement for Sustainability” in order to respond “more effectively” to “the global climate and biodiversity emergency”.
French senators gave King Charles III a long standing ovation after his speech. Standing, the senators applauded the king for more than a minute and a half. “Applause that would make us dream,” commented the President of the French Senate, Gérard Larcher.
