Manuel Bompard, political coordinator of La France insoumise, reaffirmed Monday his opposition to “circumvention of the democratic debate” in response to Emmanuel Macron’s letter to the various party leaders after the meeting in Saint-Denis on August 30, qualifying the exercise of “communication campaign”.

“Opposed to the presidential monarchy, we consider on the contrary that the political debates essential to deal with the crises hitting our country must take place in the Parliamentary Assemblies,” writes the Bouches-du-Rhône deputy in this letter published Monday morning on X (ex-Twitter).

“We did not come together around the idea that the country’s main problem was the lack of clarity and readability of public action,” he adds.

He adds to deplore that “the social emergency which is hitting the country as well as the climate emergency which threatens the survival of humanity” were only discussed on August 30 “by force after nearly 10 hours of discussion”.

After his 12-hour meeting on August 30 with the various party leaders, Emmanuel Macron sent them a six-page letter presented as a report and in which he mentioned in particular a proposal “in the coming weeks” on an expansion of the scope of referendums. He gave them until Sunday evening to respond.

The secretary general of the Renaissance Stéphane Séjourné also responded to the president in a letter on Saturday, describing the Saint-Denis Meetings as “an unprecedented democratic breath, a rare moment of unity and political overcoming”.

However, on the question of a referendum on immigration, which he considers “delicate”, Mr. Séjourné recommends doing it “preceded by a broader consultation of civil society” in order to “integrate into all their acuteness of all the opinions expressed by our compatriots”.

If Éric Ciotti, Marine Tondelier and Fabien Roussel have already responded to Emmanuel Macron’s letter, the National Rally has on the other hand confirmed that its president Jordan Bardella will not take any action.
