On 18 July 2024, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, shared her plans for the upcoming term from 2024 to 2029. She addressed the European Parliament and laid out her Political Guidelines for the next five years. As part of her presentation, von der Leyen also introduced the list of Commissioners-designate and their respective portfolios. These appointments reflect the goals and priorities outlined in the Political Guidelines. The Commissioners-designate will participate in public hearings at the European Parliament to discuss their roles and responsibilities.
Following the hearings, the European Parliament will vote to approve the Commission as a whole. This consent vote is crucial for the Commission’s official appointment. The European Council will then formally appoint the new leadership of the Commission through a qualified majority vote.
