Senator LR Marc-Philippe Daubresse, candidate for re-election, was indicted for illegal taking of interest several months ago in an investigation into a 2017 public contract, we learned from the parties on Tuesday. confirming information from the Voice of the North.
The investigation concerns a public contract for legal services signed by Mr. Daubresse in 2017, when he was mayor of Lambersart (North).
The elected official had retained several law firms, including that of one of his acquaintances, Francis Deffrennes, with whom he then teamed up to prepare for a possible retraining in the private sector in the event of defeat in the senatorial elections, specifies the council. of the elected, Me Emmanuel Riglaire, to AFP.
“When Mr. Deffrennes discussed these public contracts with Mr. Daubresse” shortly after their association, the elected official “immediately had the deliberation canceled and launched a new public contract excluding Mr. Deffrennes”, explained Mr. Riglaire, also indicating that their common company had remained on standby, Mr. Daubresse having won the elections.
“There was zero turnover, zero public contract executed, zero personal enrichment,” assured the lawyer.
“In this case, Mr. Daubresse did not cheat either with the law, or with morals, or with his conscience,” the lawyer also insisted in a press release sent by the senator.
The statement recalls that the Lille prosecutor’s office had ordered the dismissal of a first complaint by anti-corruption activist Eric Darques, who then filed a second with a civil action.
For Mr. Darques, Mr. Daubresse certainly “never transformed the trial and gave this firm anything to do”, because he knew that a complaint was going to be filed, but the facts of illegal taking of interest are nevertheless constituted by the award of the contract.
According to him, the mayor’s decision on this market was taken on September 5, 2017, while on September 12 he created the consulting firm associating him with Mr. Deffrennes.
Former minister of Jacques Chirac and Nicolas Sarkozy, Mr. Daubresse was mayor of Lambersart from February 1988 to December 2017.
