OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma House candidate has apologized following reports that she was intoxicated at Valentine’s Day weekend sleepover. The event was attended by middle-school-aged girls. She raped several children, and then vomited in an enclosed hamper.
Democrat Abby Broyles (32), said to KFOR, NBC affiliate in Oklahoma City, that she suffered an adverse reaction from drinking wine and sleeping medication she was given by a friend.
Broyles said that instead of sleeping, he hallucinated. This was in a televised interview. “And I don’t remember anything until the time I woke up, or came to, and that was when I was throwing up in my hamper.”
She claimed that she was invited by a friend from law school, who was also the mother of one of her daughters, to the slumber party.
Parents and at most one of the girls who attended the sleepover reported to NonDoc that Broyles used profanity, berated several 12- and 13-year old girls at the party, and commented on one girl’s Hispanic heritage and the other’s acne.
Sarah Matthews, the parent of one of these girls, tweeted last week her disappointment that Broyles hadn’t reached out to them to apologize.
Matthews wrote, “For someone who pontificates that she is undyingly pro women, I find it disgusting and appalling that you couldn’t comprehend why their parents are mad.”
Broyles initially denied to NonDoc she was at the party. However, she apologized last week in an interview with KFOR (a news channel where she used to be a journalist).
Broyles stated, “I am deeply sorry for my actions, and I sincerely apologize for any pain, damage, or trauma that I caused, even though I wasn’t aware of them.” “I am deeply sorry.”
Broyles stated that she does not believe she would have said what she was accused of saying, and that she does not plan to quit the race.
“The things that I’m accused of saying are not who I am.” Broyles stated that they are not reflective of my beliefs. “It is clear that this media smear campaign has political backing, and I will continue fighting for Oklahomans.”
Broyles is an attorney who was the Democratic nominee to the U.S. Senate in Oklahoma in 2020. last year said that she would run against Stephanie Bice, a Republican U.S. Rep. for the 5th Congressional District, which includes Oklahoma City.
