It is from Blois, where he participates in the fourth Campus of the PS, that Olivier Faure reacts to the interview given by Emmanuel Macron to Point. The opportunity for the first secretary of the party to send strong signals to the attention of the Nupes, in particular by supporting the parliamentary initiative of Mathilde Panot on the subject of the constitutionalization of abortion. And to reproach the President of the Republic for having mentioned the urban violence without a word for Nahel, whose death in Nanterre on June 27 had triggered violent riots for several days.
Le Point: How did you react to the president’s remarks?
Olivier Faure: Appeasement is definitely not on the presidential program when 49.3 is considered on all major projects, and this, from the start of the next school year. Against a background of distress and divisions, Emmanuel Macron is betting on the resignation of the French, discouraged from taking part in political life in the face of the obstinacy of a deaf and contemptuous power. Bringing the country to this level of incandescence is a matter of blindness.
Has Emmanuel Macron taken stock of past events? Urban riots, inflation?
How to evoke urban violence without having a word for what was the generating event: the murder of young Nahel. Urban violence does not arise spontaneously. However, the only answer offered is the stigmatization of single-parent families, targeted for their failings. These are women, the vast majority of them single mothers, who face all the difficulties, undergo fragmented schedules, suffered part-times and must continue to raise their children. The right answer would be to accompany these “courageous mothers”, to ensure that most of the professions they occupy, invisible because feminized, are revalued. Nearly half of the children who live in single-parent families are poor children. It is no longer possible to see people not living with dignity from their work!
The power to live must be the central concern, at a time when the start of the school year is marked by a record increase for the budgets of families, who are already bearing the brunt of inflation when they fill their carts, and must pay the bill energy. The freezing of the prices of basic necessities is an emergency to respond to the anxiety of the end of the month. Raising wages and recognizing those who support our country and are on the front line is a guarantee of national cohesion.
I ask that a conference be convened as soon as possible in which the balance between the share that should go to capital, that which goes to work, and finally that dedicated to the defense of our common goods would be reassessed.
How will you respond to Macron’s invitation to party leaders on August 30? What will you say there?
If this invitation were to be confirmed, I would respond as I have always done on the condition that all of the Nupes partners are also invited. It is not up to the Head of State to operate this cynical and opportune reversal of the Republican arc. On this occasion, I will recall the proposals that the left and the ecologists have formulated and which have won support in Parliament beyond our ranks.
I am thinking, for example, of the proposal made by Jérôme Guedj to guarantee the right to age with dignity and prepare society for the aging of its population, the constitutionalization of abortion defended by Mathilde Panot, the transpartisan text by Guillaume Garot to fight against medical deserts, that of Fatiha Keloua-Hachi establishing the meal at 1 euro for students or even the indexation to inflation of the DGF defended by Jean-Marc Tellier. And since the President indicates that he wants to resort to a referendum, there is a perfect one! Since the Parliament could not decide on the pension reform, while it gives the floor to the French!
