If the pension reform has not yet entered into force, the sequence seems to be behind Emmanuel Macron and Élisabeth Borne, whose popularity ratings are rebounding, according to a BVA poll for RTL published on Friday May 26. The Head of State regains 6 points with 32% of French people having a “good opinion” of him, indicates the institute, according to which Emmanuel Macron “comes out of the hollow of the wave in which he was after the retirement sequence” which had plunged its popularity to its level of the end of 2018. The Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, took 5 points, to 32%, according to this barometer.
Respondents were also asked about immigration, at the heart of a bill expected by the summer despite the reversals of the executive.
69% of French people surveyed say they are “concerned” about immigration, even if the subject only ranks sixth among their priorities (24%), far behind purchasing power (56%), health ( 38%) and safety (32%).
Two-thirds (67%) also consider that there are “too many immigrants” in France and only 43% that immigration is “an opportunity for France”.
While Les Républicains are launching an offensive on the subject, 73% of respondents say they are in favor of “organizing a referendum” and 66% want to “tighten the conditions for family reunification”. But 68% also say they are in favor, as the government wishes, of “regularizing undocumented workers” in sectors in tension.
Respondents view immigration policy makers with suspicion: the RN is the most trusted party (36%), followed by LR (30%) and the government (28%).
Survey conducted on May 24 and 25 among a sample of 1,002 people representative of the French population aged 18 and over, according to the quota method, with a margin of error of between 1.4 and 3.1 points .
