Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy wrote a letter of support for a prominent Christian in Finland, whose confessions of faith have led to hate speech charges in the progressive country. Fox News Digital learned.

After discussing her religious views on sex and marriage, Dr. Paivi Rasanen, former Minister of the Interior was arrested for three counts of criminal conduct.

Rasanen stated that he would defend his right to profess my faith so that no one else would lose their right to freedom religion or speech. “The less Christians speak out on controversial topics, the smaller the freedom of speech is.”

Roy wrote a Thursday letter in support of Rasanen. He offered his prayers and any assistance needed to the former minister for the interior.

Roy opened the letter by writing, “In the spirit Christian solidarity, I write to offer your support, encouragement and our prayers during these trying times.” “Ms. Rasanen, Bishop Pohjola. We have kept you in prayer over the past month as we watched your cases via the United States — knowing full well that the challenge you face is more than just legal.

Rasanen, a mother of five and a doctor, asked about the participation of the Finnish Lutheran Church in a LGBT “Prideā€ event in 2019. After her message to the church leaders, Rasanen was repeatedly interviewed by police. General Prosecutor Raija Toiviainen indicted Rasanen for hate speech in April 2021.

“Over the past three years, you have been subject to targeted legal harassment for simply confessing Christ and believing in the teachings found in the Bible. Roy wrote that his public confession of the Gospel led to criminal charges and a day at court. “While many would give in to the pressure, you have shown grace and love for your neighbours while leading people towards Christ.

Rasanen was a member of the Finnish Parliament from 1995 to 1995. He then served as minister of the Interior between 2011 and 2015.

“As your final arguments approach, please remember that we are there for you and will continue to pray for you. Roy concluded his letter by saying that if there is anything we can help with, please don’t hesitate to contact us.”
