According to Ukrainian sources, Russia has shelled residential buildings in the Odessa region. The rescue workers report numerous dead and injured. The attack probably came from a plane over the Black Sea.

According to new information from the authorities, a total of 17 people were killed in Russian rocket attacks in the southern Ukrainian region of Odessa. First, the emergency services reported 14 dead and 30 injured in a nine-storey apartment building about 80 kilometers from the port city of Odessa in the messenger service Telegram, later three more fatalities were added in another rocket attack on other buildings nearby, including a child.

According to the spokesman for the Odessa regional administration, Serhiy Brachuk, the apartment building that was fired on was a building in the Bilhorod-Dnistrovsky area, around 80 kilometers south of the strategically important port city of Odessa. The rocket was fired from a plane flying over the Black Sea. According to the rescue workers, the rocket on the other buildings in the area also came from this plane. According to Ukrainian sources, the residential building was partially destroyed by the attack. The rescue operation was complicated by a fire.

At least 18 people were killed in a rocket attack on a shopping center in the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk earlier this week. Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied any responsibility of his country’s armed forces.

The rocket attack on the apartment building in the Odessa region came shortly after Russia withdrew from Ukraine’s Snake Island in the Black Sea. Kyiv celebrated the withdrawal of Russian soldiers there as an important military victory.
