Attackers apparently opened fire on a group of recruits for the war in Ukraine at a training ground in the Russian border region of Belgorod. At least eleven people die. According to the Russian authorities, the shooters come from a former Soviet republic.
At least 11 people have been killed in a gun incident near the city of Belgorod in south-west Russia as recruits prepare for the war in Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Defense in Moscow, 15 others were injured, according to the state agency TASS. Other Russian media reported up to 22 deaths.
Two people opened fire on a military training area. They shot at a group of volunteers who wanted to fight in Ukraine, the Defense Ministry said. The attackers were shot. The ministry spoke of a terrorist attack. According to the ministry, two citizens of a CIS country are responsible for this.
The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is a loose association of former Soviet states. Russian President Vladimir Putin wants around 300,000 reservists to be drafted in to hold the areas still occupied in Ukraine after the Russian army was defeated. The Belgorod Region borders on Ukraine.
