In the morning Russia fires many rockets at Ukraine. The anti-aircraft defenses can intercept most of them, but one of the anti-aircraft missiles apparently landed in Belarus. According to the local state media, the case is now being investigated.
After the deployment of Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses against Russian attacks, Belarus announced that a missile had been found on its territory. State media in the capital Minsk reported that a missile launched by the S-300 air defense system had fallen on Belarusian territory. The reasons are currently being investigated.
According to reports, ruler Alexander Lukashenko was also informed. He had given Russian troops the military bases in the country for attacks on Ukraine. The state news agency Belta reported that the missile may have reached Belarusian territory as part of the operation of the Ukrainian anti-aircraft defense system. That would be a similar incident as in November when Polish territory was hit. However, it is also being investigated whether the rocket was intercepted by the Belarusian air defense system. So far there has been no talk of injuries.
Belta also released a photo said to show rocket remnants. Experts from the interior and defense ministries are on duty to investigate the case, it said. Concerns are growing in Ukraine that Russia could launch a new attack from Belarus. Such a find of a missile could be used by Belarus and Russia as an excuse to take action again from there.
In November, the fall of a missile on a village in Poland, killing two, sparked fears that the alliance could materialize and that NATO could be drawn into the conflict. Ukraine blames Russia for the incident. According to the West and Moscow, however, it was an off-course Ukrainian missile.
