The Munich higher regional court has sentenced ten defendants accused of membership in a left-wing terrorist group in Turkey to be met from some long imprisonment. After almost four years of negotiations, the higher regional court of Munich came on Tuesday to the conclusion that they advertised for the Turkish Communist party/Marxists-Leninists (TKP/ML) by the members, organized events, and money had to be procured.
For the main defendant, the court imposed a six and a half years for being the ringleader in a terrorist organization abroad. It was only a little behind the demand of the Federal public Prosecutor’s office of six years and nine months. The rest received sentences of between two years and nine months to five years for membership in a terrorist Association abroad.
The nine men and one woman of Turkish and Kurdish descent, had to stand trial in June 2016 on the grounds of supporting a foreign terrorist Association. As then, supporters of the accused, who see themselves as freedom fighters marched to the judgment before the court. In the 1970s, based and multi-split TKP/ML is fighting in Turkey, in part with violence against the state. In Germany it is observed from the protection of the Constitution, but is not forbidden.
The defendants reject terror accusation. They see themselves as the opposition and freedom fighters. Their lawyers had always criticized the indictment to a large extent based on the Turkish investigation.
