Finland is discussing the leisure activities of its head of government: Since several videos have appeared showing Sanna Marin partying, the 36-year-old has been confronted with doubts about her suitability for the office. Now a new clip appears.
After another private party video appeared, Finland’s Prime Minister Sanna Marin came under additional pressure in her home country. In a clip shared via social media, the prime minister can be seen dancing closely with Finnish musician and actor Olavi Uusivirta at a club in Helsinki. Some Finnish journalists want to have recognized how the 39-year-old kisses the politician on the neck.
When asked about this, Marin said she didn’t remember being kissed on the neck. Because of the loud music, Uusivirta only came a little closer to say something in her ear. When asked how she would describe her relationship with the singer as a married person, the 36-year-old replied: “It’s true, I’m married. And I think those are things that are part of my private life. I don’t think so Something inappropriate is happening in this video.”
Marin has been married to Markus Räikkönen since 2020, the couple has a daughter. The recent party video has sparked a discussion among critics about the prime minister’s character. The question of whether such behavior was appropriate for a head of state became even more explosive after it was revealed that the already known party videos were shot on a night when Marin would not have had a representative in an emergency.
The Prime Minister had ended her leave early, meaning she was on duty at the time. According to a report by the STT news agency on Friday, the social democrat also drank alcohol that evening. “This means that there was no representation that would have taken over their duties,” writes STT. Marin had already explained on Thursday that she simply spent an evening with her friends and did nothing forbidden.
“I want to show that it’s ordinary people with ordinary lives who do jobs like this,” she said. “I didn’t do drugs and I didn’t consume anything but alcohol. I danced, sang, and partied – totally legal things.” Parts of the opposition and a member of their coalition had asked the 36-year-old to undergo a drug test – which she did. Party friends strengthened her back. In the population, opinions about Marin’s leisure activities are divided.
