On Feb. 16, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., stated during his telephone town hall that he believes health care should be left to patients and families, not Washington bureaucrats. As a woman who is at high risk for ovarian cancer and who relies on Planned Parenthood for cancer screenings and basic health care, I couldn't agree more.
Toomey's comments were meant to attack the Affordable Care Act, but if he were being consistent in his beliefs, he would support protecting women's health care and crucial Planned Parenthood funding.
Toomey either thinks politicians belong in the business of health care or they don't. He can't have it both ways.
