In a court filing, Attorney General Letitia James stated that the office of Letitia James had recently issued subpoenas for testimony and documents to the Trumps in connection with a long-running civil investigation involving matters such as “the valuation of properties owned by or controlled” Trump.

Monday’s filing was made public by James as he went to court to enforce the subpoena. It was the first time investigators had publicly stated that they are also looking for information from Ivanka Trump Jr. and Donald Trump Jr., who were both trusted associates of their father and have been executives in the Trump Organization.

It was reported last month that James’ office requested Trump to sit for a deposition.

Monday night, Trump lawyers filed court papers seeking to block subpoenas. They called them “unconstitutional and unprecedented” and accused James of trying to get testimony against him in a parallel criminal investigation being led by Alvin Bragg, Manhattan District Attorney.

The Trumps’ lawyers stated that James “seeks out to circumvent” the entire grand jury process and force the Trumps to testify without the immunity guaranteed by state law if they are subpoenaed before the grand jury in criminal probe.

James, a Democrat has spent over two years investigating whether Trump Organization misled tax officials or banks about the assets’ value — either inflating them for favorable terms or minimising them to get tax savings.

“Despite their name, they must follow the same rules that everyone else.” These delay tactics won’t stop us following the facts and the law. This is why we will ask the court to compel Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trumps to testify before our office under oath,” James stated in a statement that was made after Trumps attempted to block subpoenas.
