Europe is hit by an unprecedented heat wave. France, and in particular the South, is not spared. While nine departments – Alpes-Maritimes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Var, Vaucluse, Bouches-du-Rhône, Gard, Hérault, Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud – were already on orange alert for a heat wave on Wednesday July 19, Météo-France announced that it would maintain its vigilance for the whole day Thursday in these same nine departments.

Southeastern France continued to break temperature records on Wednesday, both day and night, Météo-France announced. In the afternoon, several municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes broke their monthly records for the month of July: Tende with 35 degrees, Le Castellet with 36 degrees and Caussols, located at 1,268 meters above sea level, with 31.3 ° C.

A point of improvement is expected for Friday in these departments, even if the temperatures will still be very summery. It should be between 32 and 35 ° C in the Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Vaucluse, as in Corsica, and a few degrees lower (between 30 ° C and 32 ° C) in the Alpes-Maritimes. Note that a few drops of rain are expected on Friday in the north of the Paca region.
