Double goalscorer Kevin Schade clapped happily with his teammates, Malik Tillman was already thinking about the small celebration after the next convincing performance. The two 19-year-old youngsters secured the new German U21 national coach Antonio Di Salvo with their goals the second victory in the second game and thus a perfect start. The selection of the German Football Association won on Tuesday 5:1 (2:1) in Hungary and thus got the fourth victory in the fourth match in the European Championship qualification. “We have won very deservedly”, says Di Salvo in the TV channel ProSieben Maxx. “The team is good, is talented. But I also know that we still have a lot of work to do.”

“Our goal was to get two victories, we did that,” said Tilmann and added when asked about the upcoming evening with the team: “I hope something goes.” In front of 2000 spectators in Szeged, it was once again the Freiburg Schade (5. Minute) and the Munich Tillman (32.), who initiated the victory with their hits.

The two 19-year-olds had recently celebrated their debut in the U21 in the 3:2 against Israel and with their goals significantly ensured Di Salvo’s premiere success in Paderborn. The 42-year-old head coach continued to rely on the duo in his second game as successor to Stefan Kuntz and was rewarded. Schade provided with his second goal to 5:1 for the final point (90.).

Also against Hungary whirled Schade and Tillman together with captain Jonathan Burkardt and striker Erik Shuranov. The Nürnberger made the German success with his first U21 goal perfect, when he deflected a failed liberation strike of the Hungarian defender Dominik Csontos into the goal (54.). The substitute Tom Krauß increased to 4:1 (66.), before Schade scored for the second time. The only goal for the hosts scored earlier Tamas Kiss (39.).

With the clear success, the German junior team also defended first place in the qualifying group, from which only the winner directly solves the ticket for the upcoming tournament 2023 in Georgia and Romania.

Schade rewarded the European champion with his goal with a rebound to the early 1:0 for a dominant initial phase. The German selection then continued to play consistently forward, but could not quite build on the strong first minutes. Only in the middle of the second half Tillman increased to 2:0 after a nice combination.

The Hungarians, against whom the DFB selection had won 3:0 in the preliminary round on their way to the European Championship title 2021, were waiting for mistakes of the opponent and played quite courageously. Over time, the hosts came into the game better and better, but the German defense was mostly safe. Only shortly before the break, the Hungarians rewarded themselves and used a perfectly played counterattack for the opening goal by Kiss.
