Manuel Neuer had skin cancer. The national goalkeeper announced this in a press release on the launch of a care series. This does not jeopardize his commitment to the World Cup in Qatar. His club, FC Bayern, has also said he has recovered from a shoulder injury.
According to his own statement, national soccer goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been struggling with skin cancer that has now healed. The 36-year-old announced this in a press release as part of an entrepreneurial activity together with the German world-class tennis player Angelique Kerber.
“We both have a very personal history when it comes to skin diseases. Angelique has sun-related hyperpigmentation and in my case skin cancer on my face, which I’ve had to operate on three times,” said national team captain Manuel Neuer.
The FC Bayern goalkeeper is currently on a break due to a shoulder injury. However, shortly before the World Cup in Qatar, all signs point to a comeback from Neuer in the upcoming Bundesliga final sprint. Neuer has been doing goalkeeper-specific training since the beginning of the week. “He’s fine. Development is good. It’s possible that he’ll be back in Berlin at the weekend. We’ll have to see that from day to day,” said coach Julian Nagelsmann after Munich’s 2-0 win over Inter Milan on Tuesday evening the Champions League.
In the group game, which was no longer decisive, he was again represented by Sven Ulreich. “Now let’s see if Manu is ready,” said sporting director Hasan Salihamidži?, looking ahead to Saturday’s away game against Hertha BSC. Afterwards, Neuer would stay for the home game against Werder Bremen and the last Bayern game of the year on Saturday next week at FC Schalke 04 to gain match practice in the Munich goal.
National coach Hansi Flick will announce the German World Cup squad on November 10th. Just four days later, the national team set off for the tournament in Qatar with a stopover for a friendly in Oman. The DFB selection starts on November 23 against Japan in the World Cup finals. Neuer’s goal is to contest his fourth World Cup as the German number one.
